I shared a little bit about Wes and Ralph’s unlikely love story back on their engagement blog, but seeing their friends and family from two different countries, two different continents, come together for these two was seriously so much fun. Their laid-back, fun-loving, unapologetic way they infused their wedding with their personalities made for such a party, for guests and vendors alike.

To give you an idea of what it’s like to celebrate with these guys, I’ll just paint you a little picture. I arrived on site where Wes got ready--The Durham Hotel, a classy and retro space framed with mustard curtains, funky furniture, and a view overlooking the skyline of Durham. Wes and her friends threw back cold ones, while I snapped some detail and getting ready shots. I quickly noticed her “will you be my bridesmaid” invitation and her choice of dancing shoes, and I could already see how Wes brought her sense of humor and personal style into her wedding day (which I LOVED).

Likewise, Ralph and his guys relaxed at the Cookery, sipping on cocktails and lounging on the leather sofas in a real speak-easy style.

As I mentioned before, it was coaching field hockey that brought them together, but it was really cool to hear their officiant, a mutual friend and fellow co-worker, talk about their journey together. I don’t really get into the battle of the blues, but now that I have shot these two Duke field hockey coaches’ wedding, I feel like it might be time to call it.

The reception really highlighted Ralph and Wesley’s inclusive and kind natures. They sought out to make time for everyone, and exuded such a fun energy, handing out tattoos of Ralph’s face for guests to don on their arms and circulating to everyone on the dance floor, and make sure everyone stayed happy and fed (loved the desserts and food truck they brought in). I absolutely loved celebrating with these two. Congrats guys!
